iExperience: Nimisha and her Weaving
Learner:
Date: 14.03.17
Learning Area: LH1
Learning Coach: Priscilla Lavakula
NZ Curriculum Achievement Objectives
Arts: Level OneUnderstanding the visual arts in context
Share ideas about how and why their own and others’ works are made and their purpose, value, and context.
Developing practical knowledge
Explore a variety of materials and tools and discover elements and selected principles.
Learning Observed:
Nimisha found this task difficult at first. She was struggling to grasp how the pattern was made. After our one to one conversation, Nimisha finally understood what to do. She was able to do the first steps: folding the coloured sheet and cutting it so there were strips in the middle of it. Next, Nimisha used her other sheet of paper to cut strips. After observing others and listening to feedback given to her, she was able to complete her weaving mat. Once her work was completed, Nimisha offered to help other learners in the group.
Key Competencies/ Vision Principles:
During this activity, Nimisha demonstrated that she was connected by actively taking part in learning conversations and activities. Nimisha was curious of how this pattern was made and listened carefully to instructions. She showed her capability by persevering and eventually completing her task independently. Nimisha was also collaborative by helping other learners around her.
Next Learning Steps:
Take weaving to the next level by using harakeke or by researching and find out other designs in weaving

iDevelop Maths: Nimisha learns Rocket
Learner: Nimisha
Date: 28.02.17
Learning Area: LH1
Learning Coach: Priscilla Lavakula
NZ Curriculum Achievement Objectives
Order numbers from smallest to biggest Place Value of numbers up to 67
Identify and write numbers
Learning Observed:
Our hapu group have been learning a game called "Rocket". Learners have to draw seven squares vertically with a triangle at the top. The bottom square has 10 and in the triangle is 67. After rolling two die, learners had to choose a number from the dice that was rolled to write into each square. For example, if a 2 and 5 was rolled then learners had to decide whether to use 25 or 52 and place it strategically in their rocket. They have to ensure that the numbers they write in are in order from the smallest number 10 to the biggest number 67. The first group that filled all their squares in correctly calls out "Blast Off!" Key Competencies/ Vision Principles:
Nimisha has shown curiosity about which numbers to write in the squares and worked collaboratively with a buddy to make decisions. She demonstrates capability to make decisions and write numbers.
Next Learning Steps:
Keep learning place value to 100Keep practicing this game independently

iDevelop Writing: Tsunami's
Learner: Nimisha
Date: 22.02.17
Learning Area: 1
Learning Coach: Priscilla Lavakula
Learning Observed:
During iDevelop for Literacy, Nimisha was eager to write about 'Tsunami's' in her literacy book. Without any help, she went away and wrote her story. Nimisha showed capability in her spelling and writing simple sentences. She had also made connections with her outside world about natural disasters. Driven by her curiosity and possibly from the emergency practices at school, she wanted to find out more about natural disasters and in particular tsunamis. Nimisha collaborated with her peers and they also were encouraged to write in their books too.
Nimisha wrote:
I get scared when a tsunami comes. even when a tornado comes. I wish tornados and tsunamis do not come to New Zealand.
Next steps:
It would be great for Nimisha to lead an iExplore activity based on researching and finding out more about natural disasters and what people can do incase of emergencies.
Further develop Nimisha's vocabulary and turn simple sentences into complex and use of interesting words. in her writing.
